The dachshund is a stunning dog breed known for its 'stunted growth' and a "hot-dog" shape. There are three distinct coat varieties of these wiener dogs including the short-haired dachshunds, longhaired dachshunds and of course the wire-haired dachshunds which we would be focusing on in this article.

Coat One of the biggest differences between the Wire Haired Dachshund and other Dachshunds is their coat! The Wire Haired Dachshund has a thick double coat; they have a soft undercoat and a thick coarse overcoat that gives them the wiry appearance. These dogs also look like they have a beard and bushy eyebrows.

Exercise. Wirehaired dachshunds are very energetic and lively dogs, which means that you should be prepared to spend a chunk of day playing with your pooch to help meet their daily exercise requirements. The recommended daily exercise requirement for wirehaired dachshunds is thirty to sixty minutes per day.

So we came to the decision to continue breeding our puppies exactly how we have been, with the same care and integrity meaning the DTK German Dachshund club guidelines but will not continue getting the DTK papers from Germany- the puppies still will be tattooed and given a 3 generation pedigree from us. We will continue to import new DTK.
